MAKEUP APPLICATION TIPS
Cosmetic Foundations, Foundation Powders, and Other Face Make Up
Cosmetic foundations such as powders and liquid foundation are
used to create a clear, smooth skin tone - the illusion of
seemingly flawless skin texture that will last as long as you
desire. Foundations provide the perfect base for the
application of the rest of your make up products. Face make up
is meant to provide light to medium skin coverage and comes in a
wide variety of colors and types. You may want to use the
lightest covering during the summer and the heavier one during
the winter.
Pick a Color that Matches Your Skin Tone...
It is also important to choose cosmetic foundations that looks
natural (closely matches your coloring) and fits the desired
effect you are seeking. You may require a separate concealer for
skin blemishes, blotches, under eye dark rings and other
discolorations.
Foundation should be applied to the skin first, before any other
make up product, since other products may not blend as well to
the naked skin and may even make blemishes and flaws look more
pronounce.
Cosmetic foundations may be water-based, oil-based or oil-free,
with varied consistencies and coverage, and are available in
liquid, cream or powder form.
Loose Powder Cosmetic Foundations...
Powder adds the finishing touch to your foundation and keeps you
looking fresh throughout the day. Powder can be used on its own
to look natural. Be careful not to use too much powder,
especially around the eyes where the excess powder can settle
into the fine lines.
Powder based cosmetic foundations have the function of combining
both foundation and powder in one product. It 'sets' your
foundation to make it last, it adds a matte finish to the skin
that looks fresh, makes the skin seem finer by making the pores
seem smaller. You will only need concealer in addition to this
rather that setting the foundation with powder.
Generally, moist products are applied first and other powders
follow. But when you use powder foundation, you apply the
concealer first. Then, using a latex sponge, spread the
foundation across the whole face including eyelids, but not the
lips.
Pressed Powder Foundations...
Pressed cosmetic foundations give a smooth, matte finish to the
skin that helps control shine. It can be applied with either a
damp or dry sponge. At first, it takes practice to use the right
amount of powder.
This type of foundation works for all skin types and is easy to
carry around since it's not as messy as loose powder. This makes
it quick and handy for touch ups. It is available in more shades
than loose powder.
When choosing a shade, get one as close to your foundation color
as you can and use lightly since it tends to accumulate on your
skin during touch ups.
Liquid Foundations...
These usually offer light to medium coverage, can be applied
using a sponge and are available in a wide range of colors that
can be mixed to obtain in-between shades to match your skin tone
(only mix cosmetic foundations of the same brand). Because
liquid foundation is a more lightweight finish than compact it
tends to be easier to use on dry skin. It is also best applied
using cosmetic sponges.
To avoid a streaky finish place a very small amount of
foundation on sponges and always brush over with powder. The
powder helps the cosmetic foundations last longer.
Make sure you get the right cosmetic foundations for your skin
type - choose an oil-based foundation for dry skin, water-based
foundation for normal skin, and 'oil-free' foundation for for
oily skin. You can apply moisturizer 5 to 10 minutes before
beginning your face make-up application.
Cream Foundation...
When using a cream-based cosmetic foundations, concealer may be
applied either before or after the foundation. Use a
wedge-shaped latex sponge and light strokes to apply the
foundation across the face.
You can tell how a cream will cover by how it feels to the
touch. The thicker and heavier it feels, the more it covers. So
if it feels slightly dry it offers light to medium cover. Very
rich creams are used for stage.
Try not to cover too thick with cream foundation or it may look
artificial and draw attention to itself.
Concealer
Concealer provides extra cover to specific areas of the face
that require more cover than that provided by cosmetic
foundations alone such as dark circles under the eyes, a pimple,
tiny veins, or redness at the sides of the nose. Concealer also
offers a good base for eye shadow when applied to the eyelids.
Concealers generally come in stick, liquid, or cream form. For
blemishes, a thick dry stick concealer is good; liquid
concealers are thin and runny; cream works for almost everything
and everyone.
Concealer should be one or two shades lighter than your cosmetic
foundations and have the same undertone (go two shades lighter
for very dark circles). Concealer comes in a limited number of
shades.
Step-by-Step Instructions on How to Apply Eye Shadow
There are two basic ways to apply eye shadow in shape shading,
"rounded" and "winged". Now you want to determine what is the
best shading shape in your case.
You can try applying one shading shape (rounded) to one eye and
the other shading shape (winged) to the other eye (this would
save you time). Then go look in the mirror and see which one
looks best on you.
Experiment and try all the different shading. You may be
surprised to find that several of them may look great on you
(the rounded technique seems to look good on the majority of
women).
If you don't have much room between the crease of your eye and
your eyebrow then you need to use the winged shape (unless there
is some sagging).
Winged Shading
Looks best where the skin towards the corner of the eye is not
sagging such as on younger women because their skin is still
firm.
Round Shading
Use when your brow bone markedly curves around the eye and don't
use the winged style because it will make any sag more obvious.

How to Apply Eye Make Up Tips to Look Stunning
Learning how to apply eye make up tips may seem more complicated
than for other types of make-up because there is such a variety
of colors, tools, and techniques to use. Yet, it is the most
important because your eyes are the most expressive facial
feature you have.
Keep Your Eyes in Focus Applying Eye Make Up Tips...
After all, when you look into someone's face, what is the first
feature you focus on?!
Their eyes!! Yes, the eyes have it! We communicate through our
eyes and convey our emotions through them. That's why eye make
up (eye shadow) should enhance your eyes (as far as eye color
and shape) and not be just excessive (that actually looks nasty
and it definitely gets attention but not the kind you want!)..
You can have lots of fun while learning to apply eye make up
tips. If you have never taken an art class, this is your chance
to learn to paint on a living canvas. You can call up a few girl
friends and play around while learning how to apply eye make up
tips. The techniques you will learn here should give you the
courage to give it a try.
Applying Eye Make Up Tips to Create the Illusion of Depth ...
Eye shadows come in in several textures, powders (compacts),
pencils, and creams:
-
Powder
can be used either dry or wet and it's really easy to
control. Make sure you look for a powder that feels moist.
-
Pencils
are fairly easy to use, but you need to remember to smear
the line as you go or you'll have lines all over your face.
-
Creams
tend to be hard to control. They can look beautiful and stay
that way if you use a good quality eye foundation (eye
primer), otherwise they can slip and slide into the creases
on your eyes and eyelids.
As you already know, eye make up come in a wide range of
beautiful colors. But don't think that just because you have
blue eyes you have to wear blue eye make up!
Experiment with Eye Make Up Tips to Find the Balance...
You really need to experiment and play with new colors and have
fun learning to apply eye shadow that is within the same shade
and that complement each other (you can soften and blend similar
colors easier). That's why matte, neutral eye make up is a
favorite. When applied properly it draws people's gazes "into"
your beautiful eyes, not "at" your eyes.
The ideal behind eye make up tips application is to create
illusions that minimize "faults" and increase the perception of
picture perfect expressive eyes. Eye makeup should enhance your
eye's shape and color. To outline the contour of the eye, you
can use eyeliners or pencils.
Eye make up tips can be used for shading and shaping the eye,
and mascara to give eyelashes the illusion of length and
thickness. When it comes to creating the illusion of light and
shadow, eye makeup does a wonderful job, once you can apply eye
make up tips appropriately.
Here's the general rule to apply eye make up tips. You need to
use four different-colored shadows as follows;
-
a
neutral-toned base
-
a main
color
-
a
lighter shade for highlighting
-
a darker
shade for emphasizing
It is also important that you have access to a magnifying
mirror, and to have a set of variety-sized brushes, and/or
cosmetic sponges handy to blend the eye make up.
Should Your Eye Shadow Match Your Eye Color?!...
As mentioned earlier, excess color detracts from your eyes and
becomes counter productive, especially when you try to match it
to your eye color. Many times, in trying to match the eye make
up to your eye color you end up distracting away from your eyes
because the matching color (mismatching in some cases!) becomes
the attraction (this is especially true with non-neutral
colors).
So, in following eye make up tips, you'll find that neutral eye
shadows are the smart choice because they are easy to work with
and complement your skin tone. Of course, neutral doesn't have
to mean every shade of brown. Any of the following colors can be
considered neutral in the appropriate shade: gray, gold, blue,
vanilla, olive, brown, pale purple, mauve, beige.
Applying Eye Make Up Tips to Shade and Highlight...
The techniques of shading and highlighting are used to enhance
the natural shape of the eye. Of course, the colors that work
the best using these techniques are neutral shades (matte),
especially light colored high lighter such as white or cream,
and shading color.
You must always remember that: light colors advance (make an
area seem larger or closer) while dark colors recede (make an
area seem smaller or further away). To create the desired
illusion, it is essential to apply eye make up in a way that
works with light and dark together and keeps your eyelid shape
in mind.
Eye shadow
Applying eye make up takes practice and when applying eye shadow
there are a few steps you need to follow.
-
You should always decide in advance how many
eye shadow
colors you are going to use.
-
Choose your primary color first. This is the color that you
want to stand out the most. You apply this color to the
whole of your eyelid.
-
The next step is to apply the lighter color eye shadow above
this color and below your eyebrow. The entire area should be
covered in one movement.
Eyeliner:
Eyeliner is essential when it comes to applying eye make up and
it is available in both liquid and pencil form.
-
The first step to applying
eyeliner is to
draw a thin line as close to the base of your eyelids as you
possibly can. You should always start at the inside corner
of your eye and work your way out.
-
If you find it difficult to complete this in one line, short
strokes can be used.
-
If you wish to create a dramatic look when you apply eye
make up, you can also apply eyeliner to your bottom lids.
This is done in the opposite direction to the top eyelids.
Mascara:
Mascara is the third process for applying eye make up. In order
for your eyelashes to look their best it is worthwhile investing
in an eyelash curler.
-
When applying mascara you should never pump the wand into
the container. This pushes air into the container and in
turn dries out your mascara. Instead simply insert the wand
and turn it a couple of time before pulling it out.
-
You should only apply mascara by running the brush along
your lashes. The direction of this should be away from your
face. Only apply 2 coats and allow the mascara to dry in
between. This will help to make your eyelashes appear
thicker.
-
After applying your mascara, combing your eyelashes with an
eyelash
comb will help to remove any clumps that may
appear and this will also separate your lashes to give them
a fuller thicker look.
By
following these tips for applying eye makeup, you will be well
on your way to looking and feeling spectacular.
Cat eye makeup is all about your eyeliner. Creating cat eyes
with makeup will require patience and practice, and listed below
we have some tips to help you get it right.
It's All About Your Eyeliner
Applying eyeliner takes some concentration and a well-balanced
hand. For beginners the easiest way is to start with an eyeliner
pencil. Cat eye makeup is all about your eyeliner application
and there are many variations to cat makeup. In order to avoid
blotches when applying your cat eyes makeup, you will need to
practice. Our guide to cat eye makeup will help show you the
correct way to apply your cat
makeup.
Your cat eyes makeup look can range from sharp, thin and
pointed, to fat, and smudgy. Taking this into account, there are
a number of cat eye make up techniques also.
Traditional Cat Eye Makeup Look:
For a traditional cat eye look;
-
you will need to use a sharp eyeliner pencil
-
begin by dotting along the root of the
eyelashes
starting at the inner eye and working your way out
-
you should follow the natural curve of the eye. Stop where
your pupil ends and begin to subtly slant your eyeliner line
upwards. You can carry this line as far as your like.
Quarter of an inch is the most common
This method to cat eye makeup will give you a thin eyeliner
line. If you would
prefer a fatter line all you have to do is
retrace your steps.
Once you have acquired confidence you can try using a liquid
eyeliner
and brush to create this cat eye look.
If you are looking to create a
more translucent finish
to your cat eye makeup you should
use a shadow liner and brush.
You will need to press the shadow as you move it along your
eyelash line. You will move your eyeliner brush in the same
slanting upwards motion as you did with the eyeliner pencil.
Smoky Cat Eye Makeup
Smoky cat eye makeup is another very popular cat eye make up
technique. This look is easier than you think and listed below
are the steps to guide you.
First of all to create this look you will need;
-
a black
eyeliner pencil
-
a black
eyeliner
brush
-
an eye
shadow brush
-
dark
eye shadow
-
an
eyebrow pencil
-
and
black mascara
-
Start by using your black eyeliner pencil
-
and draw a soft line from the corner of your eyelid to the
end of your eyelash line
-
next, you will use your
eye shadow brush
to apply the dark eye shadow over the top of the smudged
eyeliner line to create a smoky look
-
with your brush eyeliner, make a thick line on your top lid
only. Make sure the line is thickest at the outer corner of
the eye.
-
to finish this smoky cat eye makeup, you will use your
eyebrow pencil to make your eyebrow curve more pronounced.
-
finally, apply thin coats of
mascara, allowing
the coats to dry in between applications.
Dramatic eye makeup is something that many women crave but
unfortunately do not have the skills or know-how to accomplish.
Did you know that dramatic
eye makeup
stands out so much better in the evening? In the evening light
your eyebrows can be more defined and your eye shadow color more
expressive.
In the 1960's,
eyeliner was the key to dramatic eye looks, and this
is still very popular today. Smoky eye makeup is another of the
popular style when it comes to dramatic makeup looks.
Listed below are some dramatic eye make up tips to help you
create the dramatic eye makeup you have dreamed of.
Dramatic eye make up application can take some practice, but the
best thing about this is that you can experiment at the same
time. In order to create a dramatic look for your eye makeup:
-
You should use an eye pencil to color your eyebrows a shade
darker than their natural color.
-
You should try to keep your eyebrows symmetrical and follow
the shape whilst creating a natural arch in the process.
Larger and
More Dramatic
Dramatic eye makeup will use the application of a light shade of
eye shadow from the eyelash line to the eyebrow. A darker shade
will then be applied in a thin line just in the crease of the
eye. This makes the eyelid look larger and more dramatic.
Stronger
and More Vibrant
To make your eye appear stronger and more vibrant, apply a
medium shade of
eye shadow
over the darker shade that you have placed in the crease of the
eye. This should be blended into the eyebrow bone.
Using
Eyeliner and Mascara
Your dramatic eye makeup will also include your eyeliner and
mascara.
Apply black eyeliner to your upper eyelashes. A thin line should
be used from the inner corner of the eye. For dramatic eye
looks, extend the line diagonally upward past the outer corner
of the eye. On the bottom lashes you will also use eyeliner.
This should be blended in making sure not to close the line at
the outer corner of the eye. This will make your eyes appear
smaller. Finish your dramatic eye make up application with two
coats of mascara on both the upper and lower lashes.
For Asian
eyes
If you have Asian eyes and want to create dramatic eye makeup,
black mascara and black eyeliner will be what you need. Eyeliner
helps to make your eye look bigger. For Asian eyes you should
extend your eyeliner just beyond the end of your eye and blend
upwards and outwards.
Smoky eye makeup has been fashionable for a long time and will
probably be around for a long time to come. Below are our 7 easy
steps to create smoky eye that will get you noticed.
Our smoky eye instructions are simple and easy to follow and
will show you exactly how to create smoky eye make up in as
little as 5 minutes. Blending is of course the key to perfect
smoky
eye makeup
and you will need to ensure that your colors are blended
correctly. Another smoky eye make up tip which is also one the
most eye shadow make up tips is to pair light colors with dark
colors.
How to Do Smoky Eyes
Step 1:
The first step to smoky eye makeup is to prepare your eye lid.
In order to do this you will need to ensure that your
eye shadow
does not melt into the crease of your eyelid and to do this you
will need to start with an eye shadow base.
Step 2:
Next you will need to apply your eyeliner. If you are aiming for
a black, brown, or gray smoky eye makeup, you will need to apply
eyeliner in one of those colors just above the upper eyelash
line. You will need to make the line thicker in the middle of
the eye.
Step 3:
To create color on the bottom lashes, which is the key to smoky
eye makeup you will need to use a lighter
eyeliner.
Once applied, you will need to smudge this for your smoky
effect.
Step 4:
The next step is to apply a light base color to your eyelids.
You should apply this over the eyelids to your browbone.
Step 5:
Next you will need to blend in a darker color. The color you
choose will need to be kept below the crease of the eyelid. Once
you have both all this done the next thing you need to do is
create your smoky look. You will need a darker eye shadow color
for this. Use your
eye shadow
brush and start blending in the color starting
at your lash line and blending upwards. You should make sure to
blend the color into the lash line so that the eye liner
disappears. Stop the darker color once you reach the crease in
your eyelids.
Step 6:
The next step is to double check what you have done, and ensure
that both eyes match. If you need to blend some more color, this
can be done using a Q-tip.
Step 7:
Finish your smoky eye makeup look with several coats of
mascara.
Beauty Tips For Green Eyes
One of the first things to consider about your eye color is the
darkness of it. There are various shades of green that you may
have. The darker your eye color is, the most subtle your make up
can be. If you like a dark, stunning eye make up, select darker
color combinations. If you like your
make up
to be barely noticeable, then go for lighter shades.
What Color Eyeshadow To Use For Green Eyes?
Consider
starting with a peach color for your eyeshadow. Peach can be
darker or lighter, depending on your specific needs. Place it on
the eye lid to start. Next, add a light brown over the top of
the peach. Be very light with this color as it is just to
enhance the peach and define the eye. You can also change this
up with a little hit of rose colors that will further define the
peach.
But, that is not all of the make up that you can use or should
use for your green eyes. Next is the
eyeliner.
Most experts recommend using eye liner that is the same shade as
your eyes. Depending on the deep color of your eye, select the
right eyeliner. Consider a deep mossy green colored eye liner to
start with. This will bring out the color in your eye
tremendously and will help to give the eye a pronounced look.
Eye liners
should be used on both the bottom and the top eye lash line.
Eyeliner for green eyes comes in all sorts of shades. Consider
trying a couple to get the right look.
Another consideration is your blush. Although it is not really
eye make up, the blush you put onto your checks still relates to
the color of eyes that you have. So does the lipstick that you
select. For blush, look at the color of your sink first. Realize
what color it will take to create the look you want. A darker
compaction obviously needs a darker color, but not overly. Here,
add a deeper peach color to your checks to make your
eye shadow.
As for the lipstick, consider a deeper, darker peach. Even a
brownish peach will be ideal for your
green eyes.
Green eyes can be strikingly beautiful especially with the right
make up!
Are you looking for a sexy eye makeup look? How about a sexy,
smoky eye make up look? Or are you after something a little less
dramatic? No matter what it is, here are some sexy eye makeup
tips you can use every day.
Choose the Right Colors
Sexy
eye makeup
will only really be sexy if you know what you are doing. That
means that before you can learn how to apply sexy eye makeup,
you need to figure out what your best colors are. To do this,
you can either experiment or ask an expert. Keep in mind that
the colors you choose may also depend on what you are wearing.
The Right Tools
In order to master the art of sexy
eye makeup
application, you need to have the right tools.
There are several things at your disposal to create sexy eye
make up. This includes eyeliner pencils, liquid eyeliner, or
powder eyeliner, eye shadow, and the various brushes that you
will need to create your look. Mascara, tweezers, eyelash
curlers, and other tools are also important.
Sexy Eye Makeup Techniques
Here are the steps needed to apply sexy eye makeup.
-
Prepare the eyebrows by shaping them and then curl your
eyelashes.
-
Apply eye makeup base all over your lids. Let it set.
-
Apply your desired eye shadow colors in the techniques that
are right for your eye shape and that fit your desired look.
-
Apply your eyeliner of choice. Use techniques that suit your
desired look.
-
Apply powdered eyeshadow over the eyeliner with a liner
brush in the same shade. This helps the color stay on and
will prevent it from fading.
-
Dust a light amount of
pressed
powder over your upper lid. Let it set. Be
careful not to get any on your lashes.
-
Curl lashes one more time and apply 1-2 coats of mascara.
If you
follow those steps, you will have perfect, sexy eye makeup every
time.
Eye Shadow Tips to Enhance Your Eyelid Shape
These eye shadow tips will help you figure out the shape of your
eyelid so your eye make up application can enhance your natural
beauty. The shape of your eyes and eyelids determine which part
of the eye area you need to shade or highlight.
Something that everyone can do regardless of eyelid shape is to
apply high lighter to the brow bone (above the eyelid and below
the eyebrow). Now, the amount of visible eyelid will determine
if you need to highlight your eyelid or apply eye shadow to
shade it.
If you are not sure about your eyelid size, go to the nearest
mirror and take a good look at it. Is it puffy or just right?!
Make sure you are looking at yourself squarely and not at an
angle. Then come back and compare with the pictures below
Applying Eye Shadow Tips to Shade and Highlight...
Prominent Eyelid
If you have this eyelid you want to make the eyelid look smaller
and thinner. So shade the eyelid and the crease of the eye and
highlight only below the eyebrow, not the eyelid.
Hooded Eyelid
With this type you want to make it look like there is more
eyelid. Apply high lighter on the eyelid to make it look larger.
Shade the crease of the eye only and spread the eye shadow
outwards to join the corners of the eye.
Deep Set Eyes
This is the most versatile shape because you can either
highlight or shade the eyelid (of course, you don't want to do
both at the same time ;-). Make sure you shade the crease of the
eye and apply high lighter just under the eyebrow.
Eye Brow Shaping - How to Shape and Define Your Eyebrows
Eye brow shaping, in the make-up application process, should be
done before applying foundation, concealer and powder to the
face. Defining your eyebrows before applying eye make up, cheek
color or lipstick makes a big difference in the overall balance
you are trying to create.
Make-up artists consider eyebrows and eye brow shaping the most
important facial
feature because well defined eye brows will frame the eyes, make
them look bigger and give the face a polished look.
Shapeless and messy eyebrows can ruin any make-up effect you try
to create. You can have a facialist wax them but first be sure
she knows which shape you want. Although there are many choices,
the most elegant brow shape is long, clean, and natural.
Hold the Tweezers!...
The main purpose of eye brow shaping and removing unwanted hair
from the eyebrow area is to create a flattering arch that
enhances the eye. Make sure that you have a clear idea of the
shape you wish to achieve before you pick up a pair of tweezers.
It's best to stick to a naturally trimmed look, unless you are
trying to create a more dramatic effect.
If you are thinking of plucking your eye brows for the first
time, see a professional before you do. Many times the hair
tweezed during eye brow shaping does not grow back right or does
not grow back at all. Either way, you will need a good pair of
tweezers and the ability to use them correctly. Few makeup
tricks can help you look as good as a pair of beautiful eye
brows can.

Most of us women have eyebrows that require some type of
definition (eye brow shaping) to look complete. Applying make-up
to your eyebrows helps them stand out and look complete. At
first, you may feel the eye brow pencil has exaggerated your eye
brows. Just remember that your are used to seeing your old look
and it takes a short time to adjust to a new look.
Eye Brow Shaping to Perfection...
Begin the eye brow shaping process by balancing your eyebrow so
that it is proportionate with the rest of your face. Look in the
mirror and place imaginary lines (or a pencil) across your face
to match the lines shown here. Do this on both sides of the nose
and pluck only in between. Be careful about the distance between
the inner brows and the length of the brows.
A.
Imagine a vertical line going up from the outside of your
nostril towards your forehead. The inner part of the eyebrow
should converge with this line.
B.
A straight line going out from the outside corner of your
nostril past the outer corner of your eye marks the end of your
eyebrow.
C.
Your arch should be found two thirds of the way from your inner
eyebrow.
Plucking Your Eye Brows Away...
No two eyebrows are exactly the same but during this eye brow
shaping phase you can achieve as symmetrical a look as possible.
Start by using tweezers with pointed or slanted tips since they
grip the hairs best.
Never pluck the top of your eye brows, always pluck below the
eye brow line, and follow it's natural arch. You can use the top
of the brow as a guideline to shape the bottom.
You will notice that the eyebrow gets narrower as it goes
upwards and outwards. Pluck the hairs out toward the ears
following the natural hair growth. Pluck slowly and check your
eye brow shaping progress often by looking in the mirror.
 |
1.
Brush the eyebrow upwards and back using a mascara wand
or brow brush, then brush downwards the hair to be
removed.
2.
Draw over your eyebrow a very dark outline of the shape
you want using a dark eyebrow pencil. Make sure both
eyebrows are as symmetrical as possible, then remove any
hairs outside the outline.
3.
You can remove the hairs outside this outline using
tweezers. Pluck each hair as close to the root as
possible. Pluck one hair at a time, always pluck from
underneath the brow and pull hairs in their growth
direction using a swift, sharp movement.
4.
After plucking, brush eyebrows into shape using an eye
brow brush. Work upward and outward to give the brow
more definition. Your eye brow shaping phase is
complete.
5.
To achieve symmetry you can use eyebrow pencil or shadow
to define the eye brows. Use light strokes to fill in
any gaps.
6.
Brush through again with the brow brush to blend in the
eyebrow pencil. You can use hair spray to keep hairs in
place by spraying a clean mascara wand and combing it
through the eyebrow. |
What Eye Brow Color to Blend in...
After eye brow shaping you need to determine your eyebrow
make-up color using your present hair color as a guideline,
whether it's natural or artificially colored.

How to Apply Eye Liner to Define Your Eyes
How to apply eye liner using a few simple techniques can
dramatically affect the look and shape of your eyes. You can use
an eye pencil instead of eye liner to create the same effect.
How to Apply Eye Liner to Change the Way Your Eyes Look...
The purpose of eyeliner is to frame and define the contour of
your eyes in order to draw attention to them.
Many experienced make-up artists like to use eye shadow instead
of eye pencil to subtly line the eyes, creating a
natural-looking effect.
Pencils used for lining eyes should be soft and smudgy, so they
do not drag the skin around the eye during application.
 |
MORE ROUND
Use eyeliner to outline the contour of your eyes at the
base of the eyelashes and continue toward the outer
corner, thicken and "wing" the line upward.
MORE OVAL
Start a fine line at the base of your eyelid, thicken it
in the middle, and draw it toward the outer corner of
your eyes.
CLOSE TOGETHER
Use eyeliner to draw a tappered line starting thick on
the inner corner of your eye and narrowing through to
the outer corner of the eye.
FARTHER APART
Apply eyeliner and start the line away from the inner
corner of your eye thickening toward the outer edge and
extend it slightly upward.
LARGER
Trace a fine line of eye liner around the contour of
your eye and also draw a fine line at the base of the
upper and lower lashes for more definition.

Learning How to Apply Eye Liner Color...
The colors you choose to line eyes with should be subtle and
should complement your natural skin tone and hair color. At
times, you may want to use brighter colors for special occasions
such as an evening event. Use bright colors with great care.
How to apply eye liner correctly depends also on your hair color
and other factors. Here are some eye liner colors to consider:

Cosmetic Mascara; Achieving a Long, Natural Look.
Cosmetic mascara is used to make the eyelashes look thicker and
darker. It is available in neutral shades such as black, dark
brown, and dark gray and it is also available in navy, blue,
clear and a host of other fad colors.
Most women prefer black because it is a basic neutral color and
it works well on almost everyone for most occasions. You can try
a shade of brown if you're blonde.
And if every shade you try seems too dark for you, you might
benefit from clear cosmetic mascara, which, still lifts and
separates the lashes.

There are two basic types of cosmetic mascara: waterproof and
regular. Regular mascara is easier to remove at the end of the
day but to remove waterproof, you need an eye make up remover.
Discard mascara within four months of use since bacteria
contaminates it and, it also dries out and clumps up. Make sure
you apply it when you are stationary (not in moving vehicles) to
avoid eye injury.
First Step...Curling Your Lashes!...
Before applying cosmetic mascara, you may want to curl your
lashes with an eyelash curler, especially if your eyelashes are
straight. To use an eyelash curler: open the curler, place your
upper lashes between the two troughs, close the curler slowly,
and hold them in the curled position for 10-20 seconds.
Do not press too hard, it could create a kink in the middle of
the lashes. Open up the curlers fully before pulling them away
from your eye. Do not curl your lower lashes. Curling your
eyelashes will immediately open up the eyes and make them look
bigger.
Applying Clumpless Cosmetic Mascara...
Sometimes the wax in the mascara crystallizes and clumps up
which keeps it from going on smoothly. To avoid the clumps
during application, use a thin short wand to get into the corner
lashes and always wipe the wand lightly with a tissue before you
apply it.
You may apply more than one coat if you want but always allow
the first coat to dry before applying the second. You can also
apply it on the bottom lashes or not depending on the effect you
are trying to achieve. Always take it into the inner corners of
the top lashes.

 |
1. Hold a magnifying mirror slightly above your face
and position the mascara wand vertically straight in
front of you. Lightly stroke down the bottom lashes,
moving from the inner to the outer corner of the eye.
Wipe off any excess on a tissue.
2. Lift your chin while looking down, then, starting in
the middle of the upper eyelash, apply cosmetic mascara
in upward parallel strokes through your top lashes from
below the upper lashes combing them upwards, and working
your way out to the edges.
3. Apply a couple coats to the edges. Try blinking on
the brush.
4. Look slightly down into the mirror, brush the wand
from the root to the end of the uppermost top lashes.
Then work diagonally from beneath and, after that, with
a straight movement.
5. Use an eyelash comb or a second wand to brush
through stuck eyelashes or clumps of cosmetic mascara.

Apply Blush Using the Proper Cheek Colors and Brushes
Apply blush to enhance the shape of your face. Blusher is so
versatile, it can add natural color to the face, enhance and
contour the cheeks, highlight the cheekbones,
soften a prominent cheekbone and warm up the skin.
It can also be used to shade and darken and even create a
slimming illusion on a rounded face.
You need to study the shape of your face and decide whether you
need to use blush to contour or to add color.
Regardless of the reason you choose to apply blush, you need to
be able to apply the color to the exact area in order to create
the effect you want.
Matte Natural Colors are Best ...
Blush is available in compact and cream forms and comes in three
basic shades: peach, pink, or brown. Matte natural colors are
best. Powder blush is the easiest to handle. Cream blush is best
for dry skin because it contains oils which moisturizes your
skin.
It is best to apply blush after the foundation and must be
blended perfectly to make sure the edges are subtly blended in.
Pick your colors carefully and use a good brush since you want
your blush application to look like a natural healthy glow.
How to Apply Blush...
Blush has a tendency to darken with body heat, so make sure you
apply blush sparingly. And always apply color cosmetics in
natural light whenever possible so you know exactly what your
make up will look like.
1. Find the apple of your cheek by smiling into a mirror.
Choose a good blusher brush. Then, pick up some blusher color
with the brush and shake off the excess.
2. Brush the cheek color lightly over the apple of the cheek
using short, up-and-down vertical strokes moving toward the top
of your ear in a teardrop shape with the thinner part at the top
and the wider part pointing toward your nose.
3. Blend into your foundation and at the hairline, with one
soft horizontal motion on the top of the vertical strokes,
without brushing any color onto the hair.
4. If it looks like you have too much blusher. Dust cheeks with
powder to tone down the color.
5. If you still feel that you need a little more color on your
face, you can add a little blush across your forehead by
brushing a very slight coat of cheek color just above the
eyebrows.
Choosing the Right Blusher Colors...
You need to choose blusher colors from either the warm or cool
palette, depending on the undertone of your skin. If you have a
cool skin undertone you will want to apply blush colors that are
cool such as pink or mauve. If you have a warm undertone you
will be more comfortable with colors that have yellow or orange
tones.
Matching Lipstick Colors with Your Lip Liner or Lip Pencil
Colors
Lipstick colors application is the funnest and easiest part of
face makeup partly because there are not as many 'rules' to
follow and because the color you put on your lips changes your
appearance instantly. You can transform your look from natural
pinks to dramatic reds just by changing colors.
Mix and Match Lip Colors
You can even make your own unique color combinations by mixing
lipstick colors on your lips to define your mouth, add color to
your face and balance your overall look. That way you can
customize your lip color to create the effect you want and to
match different clothes.
So, with so many choices there is no need to restrict yourself
to wearing the same lipstick colors all the time. Your lip
colors can range from natural looking pinks and beiges, to
oranges, to dramatic and elegant reds. And, as a finishing
touch, make sure that your lipstick goes with your blusher.
When it Comes to Lipstick, Pigment is King...
The main ingredient in lipstick is pigment, which provides the
color. It also contains oils to moisturize and spread the
lipstick colors; and wax to keep its shape. The ratios of these
ingredients may vary but the more pigment it has, the more it
dries your lips. And quality does not depend on price, you can
find good quality lipstick at cheap prices.
Lipstick is available in stick, cream and frosted formulas, and
in a wide range of colors. Some can last several hours of wear
before having to reapply. Some lipsticks offer high solid
coverage, while others are sheer and natural. Since, some
formulas may feel dry on the lips, you may want to test them
before you purchase. The five basic types are sheer, shimmer,
cream, matte, and long-lasting.
Here is How to Choose Lipstick Colors...
Your choice of lipstick colors usually depends on several
factors, including the colors of the clothing you are wearing.
Your lipstick color should complement your outfit, not clash
with it.
The occasion and dress style (casual or formal) are also
determining factors. For casual wear natural colors would be
more appropriate while deeper colors such as dark reds would be
preferable for a party or formal events.
After you have decided on a color, try it on your lips and test
the color in natural light (indoor lighting can distort your
color perception)
SHEER
Looks naturally, wet and shiny, and it is not long lasting since
it contains little pigment. Includes lip glosses (stains and
tints), and offer little coverage. If you color in the lips with
a light color pencil first your lipstick will last longer.
SHIMMER
Metallic shimmers contain small pieces of mica to reflect the
light but this quality looks more subtle after applied to the
lips. Shimmers draw attention to the lips and can make them
appear fuller.
CREAM
Moisturizing lipstick containing oils and conditioners (like a
lip balm), that makes them lighter and smoother than heavy
mattes. Cream lipsticks are available in long lasting formulas.
MATTE
Longest lasting formula containing the most pigment (which can
dry your lips) provides deep opaque colors. Lighter mattes are
known as semi matte. With a matte or semi-matte lip color you
can create a warm, natural effect and they can also make the
lips look thinner.
LONG-LASTING
This deep, creamy, time-release (semi-permanent) formula uses
the heat from your lips to stimulate continuous release of color
that does not fade and can last up to eight hours.
Color Inside the Lines Using Lip Pencil (Lip Liner)...
Lip liner keeps lipstick within the bounds of your lips and
defines the outlines of your mouth to create a crisp, sharp
border for coloring your lips. This outline helps make the color
last, and prevents lip color from "bleeding".
When shopping for a lip pencil, choose a shade that is not more
than one tone darker than your lipstick and test the quality on
the back of your hand by drawing a line and rubbing it lightly
with your finger. If it smudges, it is too greasy and if it
flakes and pulls your skin, it is too dry.
Lip pencils are used to correct the shape of unbalanced lips
since it is easier than it is when using lipstick only. They are
made from a much harder wax than lipstick and with less oil.
Lip liners are available in a variety of colors and should match
and blend with your lipstick colors.
Applying Lipstick to Enhance your Lip Shape
Applying lipstick with moisturizers and sun protection is one
effective way to protect the lips from weather changes.
Moisturizing lipsticks have the smallest amount of pigment,
because pigment dries your lips.
Today, most lipsticks contain some kind of moisturizer like
Vitamin E, collagen, or amino acids, and some even contain sun
block.
Lipstick adds the finishing touch to makeup by bringing the
other colors you have applied to your face into harmony.
Applying lipstick after drawing a crisp lip outline is an
important key in the finishing touch since it helps to keep the
color from bleeding.
First; Apply Lipliner (Lip Pencil)...
Use a freshly sharpened lip pencil (lip liner) either in the
same color as the lipstick or slightly darker color. Avoid
colors that are more than one shade darker (or lighter).
Here is the correct sequence to follow when lining your lips and
applying lipstick:
1. To make applying lipstick easier, rub a small amount of
moisturizer on your lips.
2. Outline the center edge of your upper lip with lip liner.
3. Move to the center of your bottom lip and draw a short,
horizontal line.
4. Now carefully line the corners of your mouth. If your lips
are asymmetric, refer to correcting irregularly shaped lips
section below.
5. Connect the lines drawn at the top and bottom center of your
lips with the lines drawn at the corners of your mouth.
Then... Apply Lipstick...
